Let the Wind Blow!
Goodness, it is blowing yet another windstorm, interspersed with spates of rain. The wind is averaging 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. I had to re-wrap the washer and dryer, which are sitting under a blue plastic tarp along the side of the house -- the wind keeps working the tarp loose, and when I came home today, the tarp was in the hedge. At least it hadn't totally blown away.

Then I had to duct-tape the plastic sheeting protecting the circuit breaker and power cables, since the wind had torn most of it free of the staples holding it in place. Yay for duct tape! I really don't want water getting on the electrical stuff.

A closer picture of the plumbing stubs for the new bathroom. Interesting how it is done. Sometime this week the concrete will be poured, I think, assuming the weather cooperates. I doubt anyone would want to work in this gale. My scalp is full of sand from my sojourn outside. The outdoor kitties, came, ate, complained bitterly about the weather, and disappeared to their kitty house for the night.

I bought herbs on Saturday - rosemary, parsley, and catnip. I parked the catnip on top of the fridge, but Grey found it all too soon. So it is now in the back bedroom behind closed doors till I can put it in the hanging planter.

Here's hoping you get through the latest round of storms okay. Snow? The mind boggles. We had our first nasty thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, with over 2500 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. I heard the appliances fizz-pop a couple of times and was glad I'd unplugged the computer.

Not surprised that Grey, the Eater of All, found the catnip. Will putting in in a hanging planter keep him out of it?

Out here we have 2-3 years with rainy seasons in them, followed by 4-6 of dry ones. We have now gotten far enough into the dry part that the politicians are convinced we're in a horrible drought. As usual.

Doesn't CA always have a horrible drought? XD I hope you don't have a fire year like last one. That was way too exciting.

Depends on if you're comparing us to Seattle or the Rub Al-Khali. :) You and me both on the fires. That was QUITE enough, thank you!

It snowed 8 inches in Pullman, plus the mountain passes were "interesting" with snow and ice. Down at our elevation, we got wind, wind, rain, rain, more wind... it is actually calm and NOT raining at the moment. It is supposed to be more seasonal later in the week with temps in the 80s.

Putting the hanging planter outside will work. :D

So, the weather is going all Situational Ironical on you, huh?

You have my sympathies. Good luck keeping the catnip alive.

It is either Ironic or a spell to call bad weather - kind of like washing your car, home renovations seems to invite the weather gods out to play.

Got to water that catnip!

Last time I tried to duct tape something down to keep out the water it was damp enough already that the stuff would not stick for love nor money. So be sure everything's secured before the rain arrives. (Though some duct tapes work better - I've got a very good variety that I used to affix the tarp to the shed out back.)

As long as it isn't fully wet, this tape seems to work fine - surface dust interferes with it more than anything.

Intrigued how the water plumbing's jacketed in what looks like insulation; does it get >that< cold over there?

The weather's exceedingly strange over here too; there's been over two feet of fresh snow in the mountains in the last week and I'm bundled up like it's still winter instead of nearly summer. It's thrown a monkey wrench in my gardening plans this year. Got lots of cleanup to do after yesterday's wind.

Blitz unerringly discerns when the drawer with bag of catnip is left open. And shreds it. But he hardly pays any attention to catnip bush outside.

Duct tape is a temporary fix to many problems; I just used heat-shrink tubing to repair Dawn's glasses when an earpiece broke off at the hinge.

It can get to -20 on odd years. Just when you think it won't get that cold. >__<

I've got some debris in my yard, mostly bits of tar paper and old insulation, but my duct tape job kept the electric stuff dry.

Home renovation attracts bad weather like picnics attract ants. Good luck keeping everything covered and dry for the duration!

It has been like some sort of "wild weather" spell -- better even than washing windows or the car.

I'm sorry to hear about the wind, etc. Hope you find good homes for all of your outdoor kitties (good luck to Black Jack)!

Love the Victorian-reproduction girl's head on your 'fridge. Is it a calendar? (Hee for kitties finding the catnip)

Still applying for jobs. Got notices that some applications have been accepted -- will I be chosen for any interviews, though? (I'm glad I looked up one apartment complex that wanted a part-time front desk person. One of its customer reviews complained that its "convenient location" was near where the druggies hang out. I had that info informally confirmed and agreed that I didn't want to go there.) Eeek!

I've been trying to take photos of the kitties so I can post them on the workplace ad pages on our website.

Yep, it's an old Victorian calendar I thought was too pretty to toss. I finally put the catnip outside in the hanging pot. I have to properly put them into a nice arrangement, but at least hanging from the house-eaves they are out of harm's way.

The wind finally calmed down this morning. My duct tape job held, yay. :D

Oo, good luck with the job applications!
